Which is Better to Use with Your Students in the Classroom? Blooket vs. Kahoot

Most teachers have heard of Kahoot but many have not heard yet of Blooket, which is a new favorite of mine.  Both of these games are a fun way to learn in the classroom, which leaves the question:  Blooket vs. Kahoot?

Both Blooket and Kahoot are great tools for interactive learning.  Both are interactive game-based ways to learn.  Both have a bank of already created quizzes or you can create your own.  I'm going to talk about the difference between the two and which one is best in which circumstance.

What is Kahoot?

You probably already know about Kahoot.  It's been around for a while and I've even played it in PDs and staff meetings.  Kahoot is a trivia game where students answer multiple-choice questions within a certain time frame.  There's a leaderboard displayed by the teacher that shows the top 5 scoring students.  Students are scored not only by getting the answer correctly but how quickly they answer.

The length of the game solely depends on how many questions there are in the quiz set chosen.  You can make up your own quizzes, or choose from a bank of already created quizzes.  Students join with a code and create a username, so there's no need to create student accounts.

What is Blooket?

There are many similarities between Blooket and Kahoot.  Like Kahoot, Blooket has a bank of quizzes already available (or you can create your own), it shows a leaderboard of the top scorers, and students join with a code so you don't need student accounts.

What sets Blooket apart from Kahoot is it is more like a video game.  Students answer questions correctly in order to play the game.  For the most part, they are playing the game independently, but they can do things like sabotage the other players.

There are about a dozen different games to choose from, which gives nice variety if you use it regularly in the classroom.  Some of our favorite games are Fishing Frenzy, Tower Defense, Cafe, and Factory.  There will also be special holiday games that are temporary throughout the year.  These games are based on a certain amount of play time that the teacher sets and it will just cycle through the questions until that time is up.

Which platform should you use?

I've found that Blooket works best with shorter, quicker questions.  Questions like math facts, odd or even, and identifying the part of speech work best so students can answer the questions more quickly in order to play the game.

I feel like Kahoot is better for questions that are a bit more lengthy and take a bit more time to answer.

Whichever platform you choose, students will have fun and be engaged in playing these games to reinforce their learning in the classroom.

So, Blooket vs Kahoot, which is your favorite?
